Here's the rest of Dad's outline that he passed out yesterday morning:
Implications from our Discussion of the Pilgrim's Delights
1. The Human heart is ALWAYS active.
The heart expresses itself in: Our Actions; Words; Thoughts; Attitudes; Feelings; Beliefs
2. God commands that we desire and love Him first and foremost.
The first commandment; Matthew 22:37
3. Therefore, our hearts are ALWAYS either desiring and loving God, or someone or something else.
4. The remedy for a heart that loves someone or something else more than God:
a. Take responsibility for your heart. (Mark 7:14-23)
b. Improve and mend relationships with others (James 4:1-10)
c. Our Relationship with God
Grief and repentance
Realize that we are THE sinner (remember the tax collector in Luke 18?)
Realize that the remedy for a sinful heart is not a what...it's a Who. (Romans 7:24-25)
We find ourselves in sin and misery when we delight in other things besides God. When we don't take responsibility for our own heart we move toward insanity. If you find yourself delighting in other things, and blaming your own "heart failures" on other people or circumstances, like I do so many times, then we must go to the cross. Christ will meet us there.
